Warriors Swept by Cerritos

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a 3-0 (26-24, 25-12, 25-22) South Coast Conference loss at the hands of visiting Cerritos on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (1-10, 1-3) dropped their second straight home conference match after getting outhit .263 to .088 by the Falcons (6-3, 1-3). The Warriors committed 25 attacking errors on the night despite recording 35 kills.

Sophia Ortiz led the way with a double-double as she smashed down 12 kills on 30 attempts with five errors to go with 11 digs. Ryan D'Angelo added 11 kills and Bridget Dorr dished out 30 assists with three digs and two service aces.

Perla Lopez led the Warriors defensively with 16 digs and Alyssa Estrada added nine digs. Madelyn Hancock had two blocks to lead in that category.

The teams battled it out in the first set as the teams were tied seven times and exchanged the lead on four occasions. The Falcons led early at 8-4 but a 10-2 scoring run for the Warriors gave ECC a 13-10 advantage. The Warriors would lead 23-20 but the Falcons scored four straight points to get their first set point of the night.

The Warriors would tie things up at 24-24 but a kill from Jasmine Soto and a service ace from Jayda Harris-Amete sealed the win for Cerritos and a 1-0 lead.

The Falcons would lead wire-to-wire in the second set to put the Warriors up against it at 2-0.

In the third set, the Warriors managed to hammer down 12 kills but also committed 11 attacking errors. The Warriors would see a 7-3 advantage melt away and then the two squads traded points and the lead the rest of the way.

With the set tied at 21-21, an attacking error by the Falcons gave ECC a 22-21 advantage. But it would be their last lead of the night as the Falcons ran off four straight points on two kills by Harris-Amete and two attack errors by the Warriors. The Falcons sealed the match when Harris-Amete and Erykah Scott blocked Morgan Knight's attempt for match point.

The Warriors will be back in action on Friday night as they travel to East Los Angeles for a 6 p.m. first serve.
