Rutledge, Juarez and Zabala Named All-Conference

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Brea Rutledge, Leafa Juarez and Jayden Zabala were all named to the 2021 All-South Coast Conference Team, it was announced Wednesday.

Rutledge earned the sole first-team nod for the Warriors while Juarez and Zabala made it onto the second team.

Mount San Antonio swept the top awards of coach, player and libero of the year. The Mounties had six players including the libero and MVP named to the team while conference champion Pasadena City led all teams with seven selections. Long Beach City had four players selected with the Warriors and Cerritos tying with three selections apiece. Rio Hondo had two selections, L.A. Harbor has one while East Los Angeles and Compton received no selections.

Rutledge had a breakout year for the Warriors in her freshman campaign, leading the team with 331 kills in 96 sets played. Her 3.45 kills per set average led the SCC. Rutledge also totaled 201 digs, which was third on the team. Her 2.09 digs per set average was third on the warriors and she also added 17 blocks (two solo) and 23 service aces.

Despite missing seven matches due to various injuries, Juarez still had an outstanding year for ECC. Her 176 kills 2.44 per set average were second on the team and she was second on the Warriors with 206 digs and a 2.86 per set average. She also led the team with 33 service aces.

Zabala was part of the Warriors two-setter scheme but led the Warriors with 525 assits. She dished out five helpers per set while playing in every match and 105 sets total. She was fourth on the team with 198 digs and average 1.89 per set. Her 26 service aces ranked third on the team this year.

The Warriors finished the year with a 13-14 overall record and fell to Cerritos in the first round of the South Coast Conference Tournament.
