Women’s Soccer Draws Santa Monica in First Postseason Appearance Since 2010

TORRANCE, Calif. --- The El Camino College women's soccer team was named the No. 19 seed in the California Community College Women's Soccer Southern California Regional Playoffs Wednesday and will face No. 14 Santa Monica on the road on Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Warriors, who earned an automatic bid to the 2021 postseason after winning the South Coast Conference, South Division regular season title, will make their first trip to the postseason since 2010, when they were the No. 9 seed and also faced Santa Monica in the first round that year.

In 2021, the Warriors finished the season with a 9-8-2 overall record, the squad's best record since 2016.

Freshman Angelica Taylor led the Warriors with 10 goals scored during the season and added six assists for 26 points overall. That mark finished second on the team to sophomore Sierra Rangel, who totaled 28 points total with seven goals and 14 assists. Julia Ausland scored seven goals during the year and Natalie Vargas added six goals for ECC.

Goalkeeper Karlee Clark played in all 19 games for the Warriors and finished with a 8-7-2 overall record with a 1.17 goals against average. She made 86 saves overall on the season after playing 1554 minutes in net.

The Warriors and Corsairs met once this season back on Sept. 20 at the ECC Soccer Field. The Corsairs scored a goal in the 90th minute to squeak past ECC, 2-1.

The winner of Thursday's match will travel to No. 3 seed Cypress to play the Chargers on Saturday afternoon.
