Women’s Soccer Clinches South Coast Conference South Division Title with win over Cerritos

NORWALK, Calif. - The El Camino College women's soccer team wrapped up their first South Coast Conference South Division title since the South Coast Conference split into two divisions with a 4-1 win at Cerritos College on Tuesday afternoon. 

The Warriors (9-6-2, 6-2-1) finished with 19 points and one point ahead of the Long Beach City College Vikings (6-3) at 18 points.  Overall in the South Coast Conference as a whole, Mt. Sac and Rio Hondo finished above the Warriors and will be the top two seeds in the upcoming South Coast Conference tournament championship.  

The Warriors started conference play with a 0-2-1 record and finished out the rest of the regular season on a six game win-streak and outscored their opponents 30-to-4.  

The Warriors jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first half after scoring three goals within an eight minute span.  Angelica Taylor opened the scoring in the 28th minute off an assist from Sierra Rangel.  Rangel would then assist Oliva Farias two minutes later to make it a 2-0 game. Julia Ausland scored in the 35th minute after an assist from Angelica Taylor.

The Warriors added one more goal in the second half in the 62nd minute after Sierra Rangel's third assist of the game when she assisted Julia Ausland's second goal of the day which made it a 4-0 game.

Cerritos would score one goal in the 74th minute but the Warriors were able to hang on to the 4-1 victory.

Karlee Clark made five saves for the game and picked up her eighth win of the season.

The next game for the Warriors will be a home game on Tuesday, November 9th.  By virtue of winning the Conference South Division title, the Warriors will get a first round bye despite having fewer total points than Mt. Sac.  They will host the winner of the Mt. Sac vs Compton game.
