Track and Field Wraps Season at State Championships

MODESTO, Calif. --- The El Camino College Track and Field team wrapped up the 2023 season over the weekend at the 3C2A State Championships at Modesto College.

The men scored a top-10 finish as they tied for sixth place out of 39 teams. In addition, Anthony Taylor and Alyssa Matsuzaki each recorded second-place finishes to tie for the best individual finishes for the Warriors on both the men's and women's side.

Taylor placed second in the 110 High Hurdles with a time of 14.27. He finished nearly half a second behind winner Joshua Hornsby of Riverside, the only runner to break 14 seconds in the event. Taylor's time became the third best in ECC history.

On the women's side, Matsuzaki ran an incredible race in the 400 hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:02.97. She was just three-tenths of a second behind winner Isela Ochoa or Merritt College (1:02.67). Matsuzaki's time now ranks eighth all time in Warriors history.

Lincoln Marschall also recorded a podium finish for the Warriors, placing third in the 400 intermediate hurdles with a time of 52.84. He was also a part of the third-place 4x400m relay team that finished with a time of 3:15.14. He ran the anchor leg and helped move the Warriors from seventh place to third in the event.

Other Warriors finishes included:

  • Matsuzaki: 5th place, 100 hurdles (14.56)
  • James Neely: 6th place, 800m (1:55.84)
  • Men's 4x100m Relay: 6th place (41.16)
  • Lotanna Muonagor: 9th place (6 feet, 4 inches)
  • Rania Gomaa: 10th place, 1,500m (4:55.30)
  • Chinedu Adolf: 10th place, Discus (139 feet, 3 inches)
  • Ami Jacobson: 10th place, 10,000m (40:54.24)
