Softball Falls to Bakersfield in Three Games

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --- No. 10 El Camino College saw its season come to an end with two losses on Saturday against No. 8 Bakersfield in the California Community College Softball Southern California Regionals.
The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series against the Renegades but could not secure that second victory on Saturday to advance to the next round.
GAME ONE: Warriors 6, Renegades 5
Kayla Inzunza supplied much of the offense as she went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI as the Warriors edged the host Renegades in comeback fashion. The Warriors trailed 4-1 after five innings but put up four runs in the sixth to take their first lead of the game and then, with the score tied 5-5, Inzunza doubled in Alyssa Lujan with one out in the seventh to give ECC the lead for good.
GAME TWO: Renegades 2, Warriors 1
The Renegades took the lead in the first inning but the Warriors tied it up 1-1 in the third in what was a close game throughout. The Renegades took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a solo home run by Shelby Buchanan. The Warriors had a final chance to tie things up in the seventh, getting the tying run to third base with one out. But Lujan flied out to left and Inzunza grounded out to third base to end the game and force a winner-take-all game three later in the day on Saturday.
GAME THREE: Renegades 9, Warriors 1 (5 inn.)
The Renegades' bats came alive in game three as they hit three home runs and two doubles en route to the run-rule victory. They scored five times in the second inning to erase an early 1-0 lead for the Warriors and then Bakersfield added three in the third to put the Warriors on the brink. Alyssa Miller finished things off with a walk-off solo homer in the fifth to punch Bakersfield's ticket to the CCCAA Super Regionals and put an end to the Warriors 2022 season. Leah Madden went 3-for-3 in game three and Genise Chavez drove in the lone run for the Warriors in the loss.
The Warriors season came to an end with a 21-21 overall record. It was the sixth straight season the Warriors have advanced to the CCCAA postseason under head coach Jessica Rapoza.
