Bio

El Camino College has named Sergiu Boerica as the new head coach of the ECC Men's and Women's Tennis programs in 2023.

Boerica brings more than 40 years of experience to the ECC Tennis Program. He has coached tennis at the club, high school and four-year college level.

He comes to the Warriors after spending the past 14 years as the owner and coach of the Jaguar Tennis Academy in El Segundo, Calif. Many of the players Boerica worked with at Jaguar Tennis Academy advanced to play competitive tennis at the four-year college level at programs such as Cal Poly, University of Redlands and Wheaton College.

From 2004-2009, coach Boerica was involved in different capacities with the Loyola Marymount University women's tennis team and the Strength and Conditioning department. He was an assistant coach for the women's tennis team from 2004-06. In 2005, the team finished second in the West Coast Conference and ranked No. 65 nationally. In 2006, the team would finish third in the conference and the team's No. 1 player; Pavla Mesterova, was a top-64 player in the NCAA and was an alternate for the NCAA Championships.

Other four-year stops for Boerica as an assistant coach included Pepperdine (1998-99) and Long Beach State (1990-91).

Boerica was also the head coach for the Northern Arizona men's and women's tennis programs in 2000 where he helped lead the men's team to a third-place finish in the Big Sky Conference and the women to a second-place standing in the Big Sky.

Boerica also held the head coaching job at Chapman University from 1992-98 for both the men and women's programs. In 1996-97, he coached Deborah Denio, who became the first female player in Chapman history to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships, doing so in both 1996 and 97. She would be ranked No. 26 nationally in 1996 and No. 19 in 1997.

Coach Boerica is married to Virginija Kirkiliene. They have two sons: Ignas Kirkila and Tadas Kirkila.
