Garibay Named Goalkeeper Of the Year as Men’s Soccer All-Conference Honors Announced

South Coast Conference Men's Soccer All-Conference Honors

TORRANCE, Calif. - It was announced on Wednesday that sophomore goalkeeper Luis Garibay was named the South Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year as six other Warriors were given All-Conference Honors.  

The sophomore keeper, one of the few returnees from the 2019 squad, received the highest honor of all for the Warriors.  Garibay posted a 14-4-1 record for the season and missed just two games in the season.  Garibay made 70 saves for the season and had a 1.21 Goals Allowed Average. Garibay kept nine cleans throughout the regular season and had a .761 save percentage.

Mario Carlos, Brandon Galindo, and Carson Nguyen were named to the All-South Coast Conference First Team.  Mario Carlos led the team with 31 points on 14 goals and three assists.  Carlos also had 3 game-winning goals for the season. Carlos was named the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player of the Week on October 27th. Carlos was eighth in the state with 14 goals and 12th in the state with 31 points.  

Freshman Carson Nguyen was a mainstay in the Warrior midfield.  He had one goal for the season against Chaffey on September 24th. 

Freshman fullback Brandon Galindo was also given All-SCC First Team honors.  Galindo had six points for the season on one goal and four assists.  He scored his only goal of the season against Cerritos.  Galindo was a part of the Warrior defense that had nine clean sheets for the season.  

Justin Ortega, Andy Cabrera, and Haruki Utsumi were named to the All-South Coast Conference second team.  The sophomore midfielder Justin Ortega and team captain was fourth on the team with 10 points.  Ortega scored two goals and had six assists for the season.  He scored the game-winner against Irvine Valley and had one goal against Compton.

Andy Cabrera was given All-SCC Second team honors. Cabrera was second in the team with 20 points on seven goals and six assists.  Cabrera had three game-winning goals for the season.  He had the game-winner against Moorpark, San Diego Mesa, and against Bakersfield. Cabrera was the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player of the Week on October 6th. 

Centerback freshman Haruki Utsumi was given All-SCC second team honors.  The freshman from Tokyo, Japan started in all but one game for the Warriors defense.  He scored the game-winning goal and his only goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Cerritos to finish off the regular season.  Utsumi was a part of the defensive back line that kept 10 clean sheets.

The Warriors had another fantastic season under head coach Mike Jacobson and finished the regular season with a 15-2-1 regular season record.  The Warriors came in 4th place in the South Coast Conference tournament after picking up one win over LA City College in the opening round of the SCC Championship tournament.  The Warriors were seeded No.3 overall in the CCCAA Southern California Regional and will host Cuyamaca College on Saturday, November 20th in the first round.  Kick-off is set for 6:00 PM.
