First Half Goals Secure Victory for Warriors over East LA College

Torrance, Calif. - El Camino College scored two goals in the first half to give them a 2-1 victory over East La College in a SCC crossover game on Friday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.

El Camino College (6-7-3, 0-3-1) was looking to break out of their four game winless streak in the game vs the East Los Angeles Huskies (7-3-5, 2-1-1).

The Warriors started the game with the offense on attack.  In the seventh minute, Misa Serrano made a long run into the box from the left sideline and was brought down by a Huskie defender.   He stepped up to take the shot as well, but his shot was saved by the diving ELAC goalkeeper.

Jason Santana scored his team leading eighth goal of the season in the 26th minute.  Reyes Jaimes took a freekick and Abraham Younis headed the ball over to Zachary Franco.  Franco pinged the ball back to a wide-open Jason Santana in the middle in the box who slotted the ball into the net.

Yushi Kato scored what would be the game-winning goal for the Warriors in the 45th minute.  He intercepted a Huskie goalkeeper pass to a defender and then in a 1-v-1 situation with the goalkeeper, he slotted the ball past him.

The second half was a physical affair for both teams.  The second half featured 22 fouls and seven yellow cards and one straight red card.  Four players were issued yellow cards for the Warriors.  Three players were issued yellow cards for the Huskies, and one of their players was issued a straight red card after already being subbed out of the game.

Jerson Maravilla pegged one goal back for the Huskies in the 83rd minute.   His freekick from the top of the box found its way to the bottom left corner of Cesar Amezcua's net.

Amezcua made three saves on the day after facing four shots on goal.

The Warriors will look to keep up the momentum with an SCC crossover game against Rio Hondo on Tuesday, October 24th at 4:00 PM.
