Warriors Take Game One over Vikings

TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors baseball team opened up their three game set with Long Beach City College with a 6-2 win at home at Warrior Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors (11-13, 6-  were led by strong pitching from Jason Davis who twirled six innings along with 10 strikeouts, 5 walks, 4 hits, and one earned run.  Aaraon Ragat threw three shutdown innings for the save and struck out four batters.

The Warriors outhit the Vikings 11-to-4 for the game with four players having mutli-hit days.  Ryan Matsukawa was 2-for-4 with 2 runs and 1 RBI, Lucas Bonham was 2-for-4 with 1 run and 2 rbis, Matt Hammond had two hits and Jack Nammack also had two hits.

The Warriors manufactured the first run of the game in the first inning.  Ryan Matsukawa reached on a throwing error by the shortstop and was awarded second base.  He advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a Lucas Bonham double to make it a 1-0 game.

Long Beach tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning after taking advantage of an El Camino infield error.

The Warriors regained the lead for good in the fifth inning.  Matt Hammond led the inning off with a base hit.  He avoided a double play after getting second base on a groundout to short.  Ryan Matsukawa doubled him in to make it 2-1.  Connor Meidroth and Lucas Bonham had back-to-back base hits that drove in two more runs to make it 4-1 and chase the Vikings starter out of the game.

The Vikings got one run back in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 4-2 game.

The Warriors scored their final two runs of the game in the seventh inning.  Nammack and Matsuka led the inning off with knocks to put runners on the connors. Connor Meidroth hit into a fielder's choice and beat out a double play to bring in one run. The Warriors loaded the bases with one out.  Mason Martinez hit into a fielder's choice on a dribbler to the third baseman.  They got the force out at home but the catcher's throw to first base went off Martinez's body which allowed Lucas Bonham to score from second base to make it a 6-2 game.The Warriors loaded the bases again before a foul out ended the frame. 

The series moves over to Long Beach on Thursday at 2:00 PM before returning back to Warrior Field for the series finale on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
