Baseball Nets Nine All-Conference Selections, One Honorable Mention

2022 All-South Coast Conference Baseball Team

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College had nine players selected to the 2022 All-South Coast Conference Team and one player named honorable mention, the conference announced Tuesday.

The Warriors had three players selected to the first team, six to the second team and one player named honorable mention. The team went 29-11 overall during the regular season and 17-7 in conference action to finish third in the SCC.

Thomas Bainton earned his first selection to the All-SCC First Team after leading the Warriors pitching staff all season. During the regular season, Bainton made 13 starts for the Warriors and went 9-2 with a 2.01 ERA. He was tied for the state lead with 89 and 2/3 innings pitched and tied for fifth with 90 strikeouts. In conference play, Bainton went 5-2 with a 2.33 ERA with two complete games and 57 strikeouts in 58 innings pitched.

Freshman shortstop Julio Camarena made the All-SCC First Team after playing in 39 games during the regular season. He batted .340 with 51 hits including seven doubles and one triple. He scored 33 runs, had 24 RBI and drew 19 walks against just 10 strikeouts. In conference action, Camarena batted .398 and had 16 RBI for the Warriors hitting primarily out of the leadoff spot.

Left-fielder Ben Griffin was the third Warriors' selection to the All-SCC First Team after leading the team with 61 hits. He batted .357 with 14 doubles, one triple and five home runs on the regular season. He also had 37 RBI and led the team with a .538 slugging percentage and .933 OPS. In SCC play, Griffin batted .373 with eight doubles and 30 RBI. He hit all five of his homers in conference action.

Elijah Tolsma earned an All-SCC Second Team selection after making 10 appearances on the mound with seven starts for ECC. He went 3-1 with a 3.89 ERA in 37 innings pitched. He struck out 22 batters and 41 hits overall.  In conference play, Tolsma went 3-1 with 18 strikeouts in 30 and 2/3 innings pitched.

Designated hitter Ethan Felix made the All-SCC Second Team after playing in all 40 games for the Warriors during the regular season. He batted .290 with a .400 on-base percentage. He recorded 42 hits with a team-high 16 doubles, three triples and one home run with 29 RBI. He also walked 25 times. In conference, Felix had 10 doubles and 21 RBI.

First baseman Jonah Storey nabbed a spot on the All-SCC Second Team after batting .341 with a home run and 15 RBI in conference play. Overall, he batted .292 with 40 hits including three doubles with 21 RBI. He was second on the team with 29 walks and a .435 on-base percentage.

Daniel Murrillo earned his All-SCC Second Team selection after leading the Warriors with a .362 batting average during the regular season. He was second on the team with 54 hits and recorded seven doubles, two triples and 27 RBI. He also led the team with nine stolen bases.

Theo Forshey made the All-SCC Second Team after leading the Warriors with five home runs and 39 RBI during the regular season. He tallied 44 hits with 12 doubles and one triple while drawing 28 walks on the year. His .468 slugging percentage was second on the team.

Dylan Knowles rounded out the Warriors All-SCC Second Team selections after he batted .304 with three triples and 16 RBI in conference play. Overall, Knowles led the Warriors with a .488 on-base percentage thanks to a team-high 37 walks. He finished the regular season with 39 hits including four doubles, three triples and one home run.

Warriors closer Julian Diaz was one of five players getting honorable mention. He led the conference and was tied for third in the state with nine saves. He made 14 appearances out of the bullpen and went 2-1 with 34 strikeouts in 29 and 1/3 innings.
