Warriors Swept by Long Beach
TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College suffered a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 31-29) South Coast Conference loss to Long Beach City on Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.
The Warriors put up a valiant effort to stretch the match out in the third set but could not get the final point in the frame.
Schaela Nielsen led the Warriors with eight kills and 11 digs with Erica Griffiths recording a double-double with 13 assists and 11 digs.
For the Vikings, Jubilee Allen led the way with 11 kills and five blocks while Tainea Allen added 10 kills with five digs.
The Warriors scored the first points in sets one and two but then never led again as the Vikings combined for 30 kills and 10 errors in the first two sets. Meanwhile, the Warriors had a negative attack percentage in the opening frame and a .000 percentage in the second.
The third set is where both teams played well as the Vikings hammered down 18 kills with the Warriors recording 17 in the frame.
The Warriors led 18-11 in the third set and were primed to take the match to a fourth set but the Vikings mounted a 7-0 run to tie things up. From that point on, neither team was able to gain more than a one-point advantage until the final kills of the set.
The Warriors fought off five match points and held two set points of their own but consecutive kills from Hadassah Odeyale and Carmelina Infante finally put an end to the marathon third set.
The Warriors return to action on Friday evening on the road at L.A. Harbor.
