Women’s Volleyball Drops Home Opener in Four

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 25-11, 23-25, 25-14) non-conference match to visiting Moorpark on Wednesday evening in the Warriors 2022 home opener at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (0-2) attacked at just a .082 clip while the Raiders (1-0) were blistering hot with a .355 hitting percentage, committing just 12 errors on the night.

Leafa Juarez led the way for ECC with 12 kills on 41 swings but no other Warriors player was able to record double-digit kills. Jayden Zabala dished out 26 assists and Crystal Delgado led the Warriors with 10 digs on defense.

For the Raiders, Cashe Olswang led the offense with 17 kills without an error on 27 swings. She was one of four players in double figures in kills. Brooke Bunker had 48 assists and Larissa Dakoske had 19 digs with four service aces.

The first set was close early with the Warriors holding a 10-8 lead at one point. But four straight points from the Raiders put them up for good as they closed the set on a 17-7 scoring run.

In the second set, the Warriors watched as the Raiders opened the frame on a 12-2 scoring run. The Warriors mounted a slight resistance, reducing the deficit to five points at one point but the Raiders proved to be too much.

The third set was ECC's finest game of the night as they attacked at a .423 clip, outhitting the Raiders. The Warriors led by as many as five points and, despite the Raiders tying things up at 17-17, the Warriors were able to gut out the set and make it a 2-1 match deficit.

But the night ended in the fourth as the Raiders attacked at a .419 clip with the Warriors managing just five kills and four errors on 21 attempts to fall for the second straight match.

The Warriors will host Grossmont and College of the Canyons in the annual ECC Tri at the ECC Gym Complex. The first match is set to start at 11 a.m.
