Rutledge Powers Offense Again as Warriors Sweep Huskies

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Brea Rutledge posted her second straight match with 20-plus kills as El Camino College swept visiting East Los Angeles 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-18) in a South Coast Conference match Wednesday night at the ECC Gymnasium.

The Warriors (6-10, 4-2) recorded their third straight victory with a dominant performance anchored by their outside hitter's brilliance. Rutledge hammered down 21 kills with just two errors on 38 swings and posted a career-high .500 attack percentage. She also added eight digs in the win.

Nofoali'I Selu (24) and Jayden Zabala (13) combined for 37 of the team's 43 assists and helped set the team to a .320 attack percentage. Saki Yamamoto led the defense with 12 digs while Makaela Wilson added two blocks.

The Huskies (3-8, 0-6) were abysmal offensively, posting a negative attack percentage (-.066) and recorded just 13 kills in three sets.

As for Rutledge, Wednesday's performance was the second straight outing in which she recorded 20 or more kills and set a new career high in kill percentage. She had 25 kills and a .404 mark against Cerritos on Sept. 30. It was also her fourth match with more than 20 kills.

The Warriors will close out the week on Friday night when they visit Long Beach for another conference tilt. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
