Clark Dominant as Warriors Down East Los Angeles

TORRANCE, Calif. – Sophomore Mikayla Clark capped off an excellent offensive week Friday night as No. 16 El Camino College swept East Los Angeles 3-0 (25-21, 25-12, 25-19) in a South Coast Conference tilt at the ECC South Gym.

Clark recorded 17 kills for the second consecutive match and attacked at a .250 percentage or better for the second straight night (17-7-40). She added seven digs and three aces. Caitlin Donatucci dished out 36 assists to go with five digs and four aces, setting the team to a .280 attacking percentage.

Kelly Donatucci led the defense with 20 digs and Ginia Goods had two block assists.

For the Huskies (7-11, 1-5) Ryley Rhamy finished with 10 kills to lead the team with Samantha Fiero dishing out 16 assists in the loss.

The match started evenly as the teams were tied nine times and traded the lead on four occasions in the opening frame. The Warriors got five kills from Clark but she also committed five of her seven attack errors in the set.

With the score tied at 15, the Warriors got consecutive points on a service error from Jimena Gonzalez and then an ace from Caitlin Donatucci to take a 17-15 lead. It was an advantage they would not relinquish as a kill from Kayla Conley and an ace from Kelly Donatucci finished off the Huskies in the first.

The Warriors ran away with the second set, leading wire-to-wire as they used an early 8-0 scoring run to take an 11-3 lead and they never looked back. Clark again posted five kills in the frame but recorded no attacking errors on 10 swings to lead the team. The Warriors hit .310 in the set while the Huskies attacked at a .038 percentage.

In the third set, the Warriors offense was firing on all cylinders as they hit a match-best .351 (17-4-37), led by Clark's seven kills on 16 swings. Clark also recorded all three of her aces in the final frame while Jessica Villasenor (four) and Jocelyn Lacroix (three) combined for seven kills without an error.

The Warriors will hit the road next week as they take on fellow defending SCC champion Long Beach City on Wednesday night. First serve is set for 6 p.m. from Hall of Champions Gym.
