Van Kanegan Named Coach of the Year, Jones and Vaefa Named All-Americans

El Camino College women's tennis coach Steve Van Kanegan and players Julia Jones and Kekoa Vaefa each received recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, it was announced Friday.

Van Kanegan was named the 2022 JUCO Women's Region I Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year while Jones and Vaefa were each named to the 2022 ITA All-American Team.

Van Kanegan led the Warriors to an undefeated 17-0 season in 2022 and to their second straight South Coast Conference title and 13th overall. The Warriors would also go on to claim the first CCCAA State Championship in program history.

Jones earned a pair of All-American nods as she was named to the women's singles All-American Team as well as the women's doubles All-American team with her partner Vaefa.

The honorific "All-American" title is given to student-athletes that finish in the top 10 of the final ITA singles rankings. The All-American status is awarded to doubles teams that finish in the top 5 of the final ITA doubles rankings.
