Women’s Tennis Shines in Day One of Conference Championships

NORWALK, Calif. – El Camino College will be well represented on the final day of the South Coast Conference Championships as the women's tennis team scored a number of victories Thursday at Cerritos College.

The Warriors will have three of the four competitors left in the singles competition while two of the final four teams in the doubles competition represent ECC.

Riko Tanagawa claimed the No. 1 overall seed in singles at the tournament and lived up to the billing, sweeping both of her matches without dropping a set. She advanced to the semifinals along with teammates Madi Giese (No. 4) and Lina Ito (No. 3)

Giese and Tanagawa will face off in the first semifinal while Ito will take on No. 2 Moa Lindstrom from Cerritos College.

In the doubles competition, defending conference champions Ito and Giese drew the No. 2 overall seed and blanked their opponent in the quarterfinals. They will face off against No. 3 seed Jane Quach and Jesielle Valles in the semifinals on Friday.

Joining them in the semifinals will be No. 4 seed Tanagawa and Amanda Vitanatchi. The duo defeated No. 5 seed Heaven Diaz and Gabby Tellez in the quarterfinals and will draw No. 1 overall seed Moa Lindstrom and Alba Gonzalez on Friday.
