Women’s Soccer Edged by Long Beach in SCC Tournament

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College fell to Long Beach, 1-0, in the third-place match of the South Coast Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Friday afternoon at Murdock Stadium.

The Warriors finish the regular season with a 9-9-2 overall record and will await to find out their CCCAA Southern Regional Playoff opponent after winning the SCC, South Division with a 6-2-1 record to earn an automatic qualifier into the postseason.

The Vikings are now 12-6-2 overall and finish in third place in the tournament after Allison Rose Veloz scored the only goal of the game in the 11th minute on a penalty kick.

The kick was awarded after Gabriella De La Cruz took down an Long Beach attacker inside the box. Veloz took the kick and notched her 20th goal of the year as she beat Warriors' keeper Karlee Clark to the left side.

The Warriors struggled to get anything going offensively as they were outshot 20-4 and ECC failed to get a shot on target. The closest came on a header from Sierra Rangel that hit the left post and stayed out in the 10th minute, just before the takedown in the Warriors box.
