Warriors Salvage Draw with College of the Desert

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College equalized in stoppage time to preserve a 3-3 draw for the Warriors against the College of the Desert on Tuesday afternoon at home. 

The Warriors (2-7-4) were down a goal three different times against the Roadrunners (4-6-2) but were able to come back and grab the equalizing goal each time.  

Ashley Herm scored the first two goals of her El Camino career via two free kicks from outside the 18-yard box.  Jennifer Villarruel scored her first goal of the season.  

It was a pretty even affair with both sides registering 13 shots a piece and both teams had six shots on goal.  Kelly Gallagher and Marqisha Zamudio-Ontiveros both made three saves.

College of the Desert took a lucky 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.  Fabiana Zavala sent a cross into the box that Desiree Jeanes cleared right into the body of Isabel Alvarez that deflected back into the net.

The Warriors equalized in the 33rd minute.  Alexandria Katsouridis sent in a cross on a free kick that Jennifer Villarruel headed into the far corner of the net.

The Roadrunners regained the lead in the 38th minute.  Isabel Alvarez sent in a cross from the left side to Jasmine Castillo who was able to slot it into the net on a one timed shot. 

The Warriors grabbed the equalizer two minutes later.  After a foul right outside the 18 yard box. Ashley Herm stepped up and nailed a perfect shot into the upper 90 of the left corner to make it a 2-2 game.

In the 2nd half the Roadrunners went ahead 3-2 in the 60th minute.  April Contreras played a through ball to Jasmine Castillo who was able to slot it to the far post to grab her second goal of the game.

After the full 90 minutes had been played.  El Camino was fouled right outside the box with a minute of injury time left.  Ashley Herm stepped up again and nailed her second free kick goal to preserve the 3-3 draw for the Warriors.

The Warriors will head into South Coast Conference play starting on Friday.  The Warriors have a 2-7-4 overall record in non-conference play. The Warriors will host East Los Angeles on Friday, October 18th at 2:00 PM.
