Warriors Drop Close Game against Mt. Sac at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College dropped another close game at home against Mt. Sac in a 59-55 loss on Wednesday evening at the ECC Gym Complex.

The Warriors (5-11) stayed close to the Mounties (14-5) for the entire game but they could never get over the hump to take the lead.  The Mounties led 32-24 at halftime before the Warriors made it a closer game in the third quarter. The Warriors outscored the Mounties 20 to 16 in the third quarter to close the gap and make it a 48-44 lead.  Both teams scored 11 points a piece in the 4th quarter to finish the game at 59-55.

Taylor Hart led all scorers with with her new career-high 21 points on 7-15 shooting and 5-8 from the free throw line.  Alexia Mason had another double after scoring 10 points and picking up 11 boards. Taylor Shelby led the Mounties with 15 points. 

In the 4th quarter, the Warriors had an opportunity to knot the game.  Mt. Sac led 56-50 with 1:31 left in the game before a big three pointer from Jessie Hoffsmith made it a one possession game at 56-53.  On the next possession the Warriors defense got the Mounties to miss a shot however the Mounties grabbed two rebounds to go back to the free throw line with 38 seconds left in the game.  Mina-Guevera-Goss made one free throw to make it a 57-53 game for the Mounties.

Ashley Nguyen made a layup with 34 seconds left to make it a 2-point game at 57-55.  The Warriors quickly fouled and the Mt. Sac player missed both free throws. Alexandra Ambriz grabbed the rebound but a steal from Mt. Sac with 16 seconds left and a Warrior foul essentially sealed the game for the Mounties. Hope Kakihara made both free throws to close out the 59-55 victory for the Mounties.

The Warriors are back at home on Friday for their final non-conference game of the season.  They will host Pasadena City College at 7:00 PM in game three of a triple-header that El Camino College is hosting.
