Warriors Post Solid Marks At Glendale Vaquero Classic Invitational and Sun Angel Classic

El Camino College had a great competitive weekend at the Glendale Vaquero Invitational and the Arizona State Sun Angel Classic.   The majority of the team competed against their fellow CCCAA competition and there were many standout performances by the team.   And three Warrior athletes competed against NCAA competition in the Sun Angel Classic.

Glendale Vaquero Classic Invitational

GLENDALE, Calif. - There were many strong individual performances at the Glendale Vaquero Classic Invitational for the ECC track and field team.  For the men's side there were multiple 2nd place finishes for the Warriors.  Wyatt Davidson came in 2nd place in the 200m dash with a time of 21.71.  Carson Bix came in 2nd place in the 800m race with a personal best time of 1:56.21.  Timothy Mates came in 2nd place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.45.   Mates would also come in third place in his debut in the 400m hurdles race with a time of 55.26.  Richard Hamilton ran a personal best time of 50.04 in the 400m race which was good enough for 4th place.  Anthonee Parker came in 4th place in the Javelin Throw with a throw of 41.76 meters. 

El Camino College came in 2nd place in the 4 x 100m relay race with a time of 42.61.  The Warriors also came in a close 2nd place in the 4 x 400m relay race with a time of 3:18.81.  Wyatt Davidson ran a huge anchor leg with a time of 47.7 seconds that helped the Warriors make it a close finish against the 1st place Colle of the Canyons relay team.

The athletes competing in field events led the way for the ECC Warriors women's team.  Kyja Free came in 2nd place in the shot put competition with a personal best throw of 11.28m/37- ¼ feet.   Tyra Jackson came in 2nd place in the triple jump event with a personal best jump of 10.64m/34-11 feet.   Lauryn Johnson came in 2nd place in the long jump event with a jump of 5.07 m/16-8 feet and teammate Sheniya Mason came in 5th place in the long jump with a jump of 4.78 m/15-8 feet.  Free came in third place in the hammer throw with a throw of 37.91 meters.  In the Javelin Throw competition, ECC placed in 6th and 8th place.  Maria Abe came in 6th with a throw of 25.32 meters and teammate Kendall Benson came in 8th with a throw of 24.39 meters.  Abe would also improve her personal best pole vault by coming in 6th place and pole vaulting a height of 3.2m/10-6 feet which is the 4th best in ECC history.  And in the discus throw, Kyja Free came in 7th place with a throw of 29.05 meters.

Elizabeth Ibidunni led the way for the Warriors in the running events by placing in 3rd in the 400m race with a time of 1:03.00 and teammate Sheniya Mason came in 4th place with a time of 1:03.06.   Savannah Sehenuk ran a personal best 5:02.61 in the 1500m race and teammate Brianna Harmon ran her season best 5:07.80 and came in 11th place.  Deana Takoaka came in 6th place in the 5000m race with a time of 19:55.46.  The 4 x 100m relay race team came in 3rd place with a time of 51.72 and the 4 x 400m relay team came in 3rd place with a time of 4:19.65. 

Sun Angel Classic

TEMPE, ARIZ. - Three Warrior athletes competed in the Sun Angel Classic hosted by Arizona State.  In a field that featured mainly NCAA Division 1 athletes, the three El Camino College Warriors that went to the Sun Angel Classic more then held their own against the competition. 

The current CCCAA-state leader in pole vault, Tate Curran came in an impressive 2nd place in the pole vault open competition at the Sun Angel Classic.   Curran tied for 2nd place with seven other competitors in a field comprised of 28 NCAA athletes by pole vaulting for a height of 5.00m/16-4.75 feet.  

Jasher Foster came in first place in his heat and 17th place overall in the 400m hurdle race with a time of 54.23.   Foster also came in third place in his heat and 10th overall in the 110m hurdle race with a time of 14.34.   Qwintin Workman came in second place in his heat and 9th overall in the 400m hurdles with a time of 53.05.  

The Warriors will take the next weekend off as El Camino College hosts the high school South Bay Championships.  The Warriors will next compete at the Mt. Sac Relays hosted by El Camino College (Friday April 20th) and the Azusa Pacific "Bryan Clay" Invitational (Friday April 20th).
