Workman’s Wins Highlight Warriors Weekend at CSU Northridge Invitational

NORTHRIDGE, CALIF. - El Camino College competed in the CSU Northridge Invitational on Saturday March 24th, 2018.  While the field for this tournament was lacking many traditional university squads the competitive invitiational still fielded a couple different CCCAA teams, CSUN, Fresno State, and club athletes which included Olympians such as Reggie Wyatt, Olympic hurdler Jehue Gordon, and 2016 Olympic 100H Champion Brianna McNeal (Rollins).  

Qwintin Workman highlighted the Warriors weekend with some impressive wins in the 200 meter and 400 meter dash.  Workman came in 1st place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.96. He narrowly defeated teammate Wyatt Davidson who came in 2nd place with a time of 22.23.  In the 200 meter race, they both defeated Olympians Reggie Wyatt and Jehue Gordon.

In the 400 meter dash, Workman came in 1st place with a time of 47.49 seconds which is the #9 all-time ECC performance and is currently the 3rd fastest CCCAA time ran in the state.  Davidson would once again place behind Workman and come in third place with a time of 49.27. Workman also came in 5th place in the Long Jump with a jump of 6.85 meters.

In the distance events, Caleb Ko came in 2nd place in the 2000 meter steeplechase with a time of 6:27.50.   While in the 3000 meter race, Matt Arruda came in 4th place with a time of 9:03.83.

James Ryczanowski won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.74.  Timothy Mates and Ryczanowski would place in 2nd and 3rd in the the 110 meter hurdles.  Mates ran a 15.41 which was good enough for 2nd place while Ryczanowski ran 16.03 for 3rd place. Ryczanowski would also come in 4th place in the triple jump with a jump of 12.49 meters.  

Kyja Free had the best finish for the Warriors women in the discus throw.  Free came in 2nd place with a throw of 32.50 meters. Free would also come in 4th place in the shot put with a throw of 10.96 meters.  

In the long jump event, Tyra Jackson came in 3rd place with a jump of 4.96 meters.  Jackson also came in fifth place in the 100 meters hurdles with a time of 16.24.

CURRAN TIES FOR FIRST PLACE AT THE AZTEC INVITATIONAL

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - On Friday March 23rd, Tate Curran competed at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif.  He tied for first place in the open pole vault competition with a pole vault of 16-7.

Tate Curran and a small group of Warrior track and field athletes will compete at the UCLA Legends "Jim Bush" Invitational.  Carson Bix will compete in the elite invite-only UCLA Invitational Mile on Friday March 30th.
