Softball Heads to Bakersfield to open CCCAA SoCal Regionals

TORRANCE, Calif. --- For the sixth consecutive season, the El Camino College softball team is headed to the postseason after drawing the No. 10 seed in the 2022 California Community College Softball Southern California Regionals.

The Warriors will be on the road to open the postseason as they draw No. 8 Bakersfield in a best-of-three series slated to start on Friday, May 6.

This year's playoff berth marks the sixth straight season (2015-present) that softball has qualified for the CCCAA postseason. The team has never missed the playoffs under current head coach Jessica Rapoza's tenure, which started in 2015.

The Warriors finished the season with a 20-19 overall record and 11-10 mark in SCC action to finish fourth in the conference.

For the Renegades, they finished the season with a 34-6 overall record and ran through the Western State Conference, East Division with a 12-0 mark to secure the conference title. Their six losses are the second fewest in Southern California behind only Mt. San Antonio.

The two teams faced each other in a doubleheader back on April 16 at the ECC Softball Field with the Renegades scoring 8-2 and 5-2 victories.

Mt. SAC drew the No. 1 seed in the SoCal Regionals with Cerritos (No. 2), Cypress (No. 3) and Santa Ana (No. 4) rounding out the top of the bracket.

The winner of the Renegades-Warriors series is slated to face the winner of the series between No. 1 Mounties and whoever their opponent is from the play-in round.
