Softball Blasts Compton in Home Opener

After weeks of being rained out, No. 11 El Camino College finally got to play its home opener, which also doubled as its South Coast Conference opener, and the Warriors erupted with a 16-5 victory over Compton Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

The Warriors (4-2) wreaked havoc on the base paths, stealing 10 bases on the day with eight different players en route to victory over the visiting Tartars (2-3-1).

No player recorded a multi-hit game for the Warriors but sophomore Alena De La Torre had a great day offensively with a triple, three RBI and three runs scored to pace ECC. She also stole two bases. Diamond Lewis went 1-for-2 with three runs scored from the leadoff spot and Brooklyn Araujo drove in two runs in the victory.

Overall, eight Warriors recorded at least one RBI on the day and 10 players scored at least one run in the win.

For the Tartars, Troy Peters went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Yazzmine Arrington-Edwards went 2-for-3 with a team-high three RBI.

The Warriors will return to action Wednesday afternoon as they host East Los Angeles in a rescheduled game from Feb. 5. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
