Monster First Inning Carries Softball to Seventh Straight Win

El Camino College put up a dozen runs in the opening frame and that was more than enough to record its seventh straight victory, a 13-4 road decision over Rio Hondo on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors (22-6) had 12 different players record a hit on Tuesday and put up a 12-spot in the opening frame to put the game away early. Santa Iontchevska, Alyssa Wing and Ma'Kylah Smith all recorded multi-hit games on the day to pace the Warriors offensive barrage while Wing, Iontchevska, Karla Calderon and Alena De La Torre all drove in two runs on the day.

The Warriors sent 18 batters to the plate in the opening frame, scoring 12 times on 10 hits and two Roadrunners errors. That was more than enough for the Warriors pitching staff as Clarissa Chiquete and Smith combined to allow four runs, three earned, on just five hits in five innings.

With the win, the Warriors improved to 8-4 in road games and have won 17 of their last 18 games. They will look to make it eight straight wins on Thursday when they resume South Coast Conference, South Division action at Cerritos College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
