Warriors Win Sixth Straight in Win over Santiago Canyon

TORRANCE, CALIF. - Once again the Warriors had to rally back from an early lead by the visiting team in Monday's 6-3 victory over Santiago Canyon College.

The Warriors strong offensive charge continued as they racked up ten hits in the game.  Diamond Lewis and Alyssa Wing each had two knocks. Kassidy Robinson picked up her team leading  sixth home run of the season with a towering shot in the 2nd inning. Maisie Weishoff picked up her 7th win for the Warriors after coming in and pitcher in relief of starter, Clarissa Chiquete.

Santiago Canyon College (21-7) put up an early two-run lead in the Top of the First inning.  The starting pitcher for the Warriors, Clarissa Chiquete walked the first batter of the inning, Rylie Seip.  Seip was sac bunted over to second base before Amber Elliot launched a triple to the center field fence that scored Seip.  McKenna Boyle hit a sac fly to left field to score Elliot and give the Hawks an early 2-0 lead. Chiquete got Allie Didion to strikeout to end the frame in the Top of the 1st.

El Camino College (21-6) would answer back right in the bottom half of the 1st inning.  Diamond Lewis led the inning off with a double down the left field line. She would score after stealing third base and advancing to home on a throwing error by the catcher.  Annie Adamos and Alyssia Wing both reached the bases in the Bottom of the 1st inning but were both thrown out by the catcher by trying to steal second base.

The Warriors took the lead and control of the game in the Bottom of the 2nd inning.  Kassidy Robinson deposited the ball over the left field wall to tie the game at 2-2.  The Warriors then had consecutive singles from Helaina Gallardo, Jasmine Krauss, and Alena De La Torre to load the bases and chased the starting pitcher for the Hawks out of the game.  Ashley Machado walked to bring in a run and Adamos reached on an error by the first base men to give the Warriors a 4-2 lead after two innings.

After giving up a leadoff walk and letting the runner advance to second base on a sac bunt in the Top of the 4th,  Maisie Weishoff took over in the circle. Weishoff got a strikeout and pop-up to freeze the batter at second base to end the frame for the Hawks in the 4th inning.

The Hawks would get one run back in the fifth inning after Rylie Seip reached the bases on a fielder's choice.  She stole second base, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on an infield single to make it a 4-3 game for the Hawks.

However, the Warriors would once again add two more runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Machado led the inning off with an infield single before being advanced on a sac bunt. Alyssa Wing hit a triple to right field that brought in Machado to score.  After Kassidy Robinson was walked, she purposely got in a run-down situation attempting to steal second to pull the fielder's focus and Wing scored from third base on the play.  The Warriors had a 6-3 lead after this and never looked back. Weishoff got the final six out of the game to wrap up the victory for the Warriors.

The Warriors will return to action on Tuesday March 3rd, 2018 for a conference game against Rio Hondo College at 3:00 PM.
