Lewis Has Stellar Day as Warriors Rout Ventura

TORRANCE, Calif. – Diamond Lewis continued to showcase her ability at the plate, coming one hit shy of hitting for the cycle as El Camino College scored an 8-0 run-rule victory over Ventura in five innings Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Lewis went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, three RBI and three runs scored, coming a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Ashley Machado, Annie Adamos, Alyssa Wing and Kassidy Robinson all had hits for the Warriors (19-6) while Maisie Weishoff shut down the Pirates (16-6) for four innings. Ma'Kylah Smith pitched a scoreless fifth to lock down the win.

The Warriors stole five bases on the day and scored at least one run in all four innings they batted. Lewis started off the onslaught with a leadoff triple on the first pitch she saw from Anissa Padilla. Machado would single her in to put ECC up 1-0. They would add another and never look back as Weishoff allowed just one hit and struck out four without issuing a walk.

Lewis has now hit safely in all 24 games she has played this season and is leading the Warriors with a .550 batting average and 44 hits.

The Warriors will return to South Coast Conference action Thursday as they host Long Beach at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
