Lewis Carries Warriors to Victory over Compton in Conference Opener

Diamond Lewis had a big day at the plate as El Camino College trounced Compton, 10-1, in the South Coast Conference, South Division opener Tuesday afternoon at the MLB Urban Youth Academy.

Lewis went 3-for-4 with a double, home run, three RBI and three runs scored to lead the Warriors offense, which tallied 11 hits on the day. Annie Adamos, Ronni Silas and Alyssa Wing each tallied two hits and Maisie Weishoff picked up her first victory of the season in the circle. She allowed one run on four hits and struck out three.

The Warriors actually trailed early on as the Tartars struck for a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Yazzmine Arrington-Edwards.

It stayed 1-0 until the third inning when the Warriors opened the floodgates and did not stop scoring the rest of the game.

The Warriors tied up the game on an error by the second baseman that allowed Lewis to score and make it 1-1. Wing gave the Warriors the lead on an infield single to plate Ashley Machado and Alena De La Torre capped the three-run inning with a squeeze bunt to score Wing from third.

In the fourth inning, the Warriors scored four more runs on RBI hits from Machado, Adamos and Wing to make it 7-0 and then Lewis blasted a three-run home run in the fifth to give the Warriors a 10-1 lead and Ma"Kylah Smith closed the door in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory.

The Warriors will host L.A. Harbor on Thursday at 3 p.m.
