Warriors Fall to Cypress

Warriors Fall to Cypress

El Camino College jumped out to an early lead but it did not hold as Cypress College came back to score a 5-2 victory over the Warriors Wednesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Three Warriors had multi-hit games and Maisie Weishoff tossed a complete game for ECC but the Chargers scored the final three runs of the game to secure the victory. Ashley Machado went 2-for-4 while Diamond Lewis also went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kassidy Robinson was 2-for-3 with Annie Adamos and Alena De La Torre each recording RBI hits.

For the Chargers, Infinity Laufou led the way going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Hope Davalos recorded her fourth win of the season in the circle, allowing two runs on nine hits.

The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Lewis belted a one-out double and then, after a groundout, Adamos drew a walk. That brought De La Torre up and she drove in Lewis with an RBI single.

The game remained that way until the third inning when the Chargers took their first lead of the game. Destiny Lucero led off with a double and then Kiani Puailoa drew a walk to put two runners on. Weishoff got Sydney McCollum to fly out for the first out. The runners each advanced a base on a wild pitch and then came in to score on a double to left from Laufou, putting Cypress up 2-1.

But the Warriors quickly answered as Lewis led off their half of the third with a single and then stole second base. With one away, Adamos singled up the middle to plate Lewis and lock things up at 2-2.

In the fourth, the Chargers took the lead for good as Kellee Ross led off with a single. She advanced to second on a sacrifice and then took third on a groundout before Lucero cashed her in with a two-out single to short.

They would add two more runs in the seventh and the Warriors could not get any runs in their half of the seventh.

The Warriors will return to action Thursday afternoon as they host Chaffey at the ECC Softball Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
