Men’s Water Polo Splits Day Two at Mt Sac Tournament

WALNUT, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors men's water polo team split the second day as well in the Mt. Sac Tournament on Saturday.  They lost against Southwestern in the first game and came back and narrowly edged Santa Monica in the second game. 

Southwestern 14, El Camino 8

The Warriors fell behind early and could never catch up with Southwestern in the first game of the day on Saturday.  

Zackary Johnson led the Warriors with three goals while Aidan Gutierrez and Bronson Garel also added two goals apiece.  Tyler Reed scored one goal for the Warriors.  Gary Bellingham led the defense with 6 steals and 4 saves.

El Camino 11, Santa Monica 10

The Warriors were pretty evenly matched for most of the game with Santa Monica College in the second game until a big third quarter spurred the Warriors to victory.

The Warriors were tied after one quarter and trailed by one (5-4) after two quarters.  However, the Warriors had a big third quarter where they scored 5 goals and took a 9-7 lead.  Both teams traded two goals in the final quarter and the Warriors preserved the 11-10 lead.

Matheus Trefilio and Bronson Garel both added three goals in the game.  Zackary Johnson added two goals and Lincoln Brydon and Aidan Gutierrez each added a goal. 

Trefilio also added 4 assists for the game.  Bronson Garel led the team with five steals.  Gary Bellingham had a big game defensively as he had 12 saves and 4 steals.

The Warriors will compete next at the Cesar Chavez tournament hosted by Southwestern College in Chula Vista.
