Men’s Water Polo Opens Season with Pair of Victories at Cypress Tourney

CYPRESS, Calif. --- The El Camino College men's water polo team got the 2022 regular season started on the right note, scoring two wins in the opening day of the Cypress Tournament.

ECC 20, CRAFTON HILLS 14

The Warriors opened the year bright and early with a 7 a.m. contest against Crafton Hills. Freshman Bronson Garel introduced himself with a seven-goal, three assist performance on against Crafton Hills. He also added three steals on the day.

Anthony Taleff scored four times and Zackary Johnson added three goals to lead the Warriors offense.

Sophomore Gary Bellingham made nine saves in the early morning victory.

ECC 16, SAN DIEGO MESA 8

Johnson led the offense in the second game of the day as he tallied four goals while Garel scored three times. Nine different Warriors scored in all in the win over the Olympians.

Bellingham made seven saves in net and also tallied six steals to anchor the defense. The Warriors held a 7-4 lead at halftime and used a 5-1 third period to pull away and lock down the victory.

The Warriors wrap up the Cypress Tournament on Saturday with matches against Santa Monica and Chaffey.
