TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College scored a big victory Wednesday night, downing Orange Coast 3-0 (32-30, 25-18, 25-16) in a non-conference match at the ECC Gym Complex.

Gabriel Vargas-Featherstone led the offense with 11 kills with a .286 attacking percentage with three blocks and Connor Oliver added eight kills with no errors in 11 swings, posting a team-best .727 hitting percentage.

Tommy Fraker had 21 assists and Orlando Alvarado added seven helpers as the Warriors combined to dish out 36 assists with a .349 kill percnentage.

Will Anderson led the Pirates with 13 kills and Caden Saterfield recorded 10 kills but neither could post an attack percentage about .167. As a team, the Pirates offense struggled mightily as they hit .064 on the night.

The match started with a little extra volleyball as the Warriors pulled out the frame 32-30. The Pirates held a 22-17 lead late in the set but ECC stormed back with four straight points to cut the deficit to one. The Pirates had set-point at 24-23 but an attack error from Saterfield prolonged the set and neither team could put away the other until Travis Hanneman broke a 30-30 tie with a kill and then Anderson committed an error for OCC to seal the win for the Warriors.

The second set was close for the majority of action but the Warriors closed out the frame on an 8-2 scoring run to take a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors cruised in the third set as they used a 5-2 spurt to turn a four-point lead into a seven-point margin and that was enough cushion as ECC pulled away late.

With the victory, the Warriors have now won four straight games since losing to the Pirates on Feb. 1. The team will open Western State Conference play on Feb. 26 as they host defending CCCAA State Champions Long Beach City College at the ECC Gym Complex. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
