United Soccer Coaches' Players of the Week Release - Sept. 28, 2022

KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- El Camino College goalkeeper was named the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player of the Week, it was announced Wednesday.

It is the second straight week a Warriors player has earned the award after forward Mario Carlos was given the honor last week.

Palomares recorded two shutout wins for the Warriors last week as he was in net for 75 minutes in a 5-0 win over Glendale on Sept. 20. He was in net for the full 90 minutes on Sept. 23 as the Warriors went on the road and blanked Chaffey, 2-0, as Palomares made four saves.

Palomares has anchored a Warriors defense that had gone 501:25 without allowing a goal through the Chaffey match last week. Palomares was in net for 473:35 of that span and recorded five straight clean sheets (3 solo) in the process.

The Warriors wrapped up non-conference action on Tuesday with a 4-1 win at Bakersfield. The defense's scoreless streak was snapped in the 80th minute but Palomares was not in net when the Renegades scores as he was subbed out in the 75th, bringing his individual scoreless streak to 548:35.

The team will open South Coast Conference action on Tuesday, Oct. 4 when they host Cerritos College for a 4 p.m. kickoff.

Each Wednesday during the college regular season, United Soccer Coaches selects a men's and women's Player of the Week for NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and Junior College competition based on nominations from schools and conferences.
