Carlos Named National Junior College Player of the Week

United Soccer Coaches Players of the Week Release - Sept. 22, 2022

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Sophomore Mario Carlos was named the United Soccer Coaches National Junior College Player of the Week, it was announced Thursday.

Carlos earned the nod for the week of Sept. 12-18 after helping lead El Camino College to a perfect week against San Diego Mesa and Palomar.

The sophomore recorded two goals and one assist during the week for a total of five points overall.

On Sept. 13, Carlos had an assist and also scored a goal in the Warriors 7-0 onslaught over San Diego Mesa.

On Sept. 16, Carlos opened the scoring and tallied what would end up the game-winning goal in the 10th minute with a shot to the far post to give ECC an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors would win the match 2-0 for their third straight win.

Carlos is having an outstanding start to the 2022 campaign as he's scored seven goals in seven matches for the Warriors. He's scored two goals in a game twice and has had a goal or assist in six of the team's seven matches. He currently ranks second in the state and first in Southern California in goals and is first overall in Southern California with 17 total points.

The Warriors will wrap up the week on Friday afternoon with a non-conference road match at Chaffey. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
