Warriors Remain Undefeated After Beating Bakersfield at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College men's soccer team kept up their undefeated start to the season after posting an 2-0 victory at home over the visiting Bakersfield College on Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Soccer Field.  The Warriors have started the season unbeaten for the first eight games for the second consecutive season.  They started the 2019 season with a 8-0-1 record.

The Warriors (8-0) were without starting goalkeeper Luis Garibay but Juan Montes was stellar in net and posted a clean sheet and made three saves for the game.  The El Camino defense has kept four clean sheets so far to start the season.

Andy Cabrera scored a braced and had a goal in each half.  In the first half the Warriors took the led in the 36th minute.  Brandon Bautista sent a cross into the box that a Bakersfield (4-4-2) centerback headed back to his keeper who had to make a diving safe on the ball.  The other Renegade defender tried to clear the ball but it went straight to Andy Cabrera who easily buried the ball into far post for his first goal of the game.

Bakersfield remained aggressive in the second half trying to get an equalizer.  But the Warriors were able to add their second goal of the game in the 86th minute.  Mario Carlos passed to Andy Cabrera on the right side of the 18-yard box.  Cabrera was able to dribble past the first defender and shoot past the goalkeeper into the far corner for his second goal of the game.

The Warriors outshot Bakersfield 22-to-10 with 11 of them being shots on goal.

The Warriors have one more nonconference game left in the season before moving on to South Coast Conference play next week. They play at Citrus College on Friday, Oct 1.   Kick-off is set for 3:00 PM.
