D’Amato Logs Double-Double but Warriors Fall Short Against Compton

TORRANCE, Calif. --- Massimo D'Amato scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds but it was not enough as El Camino College fell to visiting Compton 93-83 in a South Coast Conference game at the ECC Gymnasium.

The Warriors (2-20, 0-7) outscored the Tartars (9-12, 4-3) by 12 in the second half but it was not enough to overcome a 22-point halftime deficit.

Turnovers proved costly for ECC as the Warriors committed 36 turnovers with 20 of those coming in the first half. The miscues resulted in 32 points for the Tartars compared to just 13 points for the Warriors on 16 Compton turnovers.

D'Amato caught fire in the second half, scoring 21 of his 28 in the second half as he shot 80 percent (8-10) in the final 20 minutes including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Landon Gregg and Kenneth Chilson also scored 10 points apiece in the second half to help cut into the first-half deficit but it was not enough.

The Warriors will face L.A. Harbor in a South Coast Conference tilt on the road on Friday evening.
