Warriors Defeat Mounties On The Road
WALNUT, Calif. - The El Camino College men's basketball took a lead with 16:13 left in the first half and never looked back as they led for the rest of the game in a 77-67 road win over Mt. Sac.
Jamal Howard and Darrian Williams-Youngblood led the Warriors (3-13) in scoring with 20 points and 22 points respectively. Howard shot 10-19 from the floor with two rebounds and three assists. Williams-Youngblood shot 7-14 from the floor and was 8-8 from the charity stripe. Rashon Crutcher was one point of a triple double but still managed to pull a double-double with 9 points, 10 rebounds, and 12 assists. Jason Vasquez led the scorers off the bench with 17 points on 8-14 shooting.
Collin Reed scored 21 points and Gerald Jordan scored 22 points to lead the Mounties (4-12)
Mt. Sac started the game with a 2-0 lead before baskets from Darrian Williams-Youngblood and and Chase Pitts gave the Warriors a 4-2 lead with 16:13 left in the first half. El Camino jumped to a 10-point 25-15 lead with a 8:24 left in the first half when Jerald Mitchell sank a three-pointer. The Warriors finished the half on a 18-11 run with Darrian Williams-Youngblood making a layup.
The Warriors finished the first half with a commanding 17 point lead with a score of 43-26.
Mt. Sac outscored the Warriors 41-37 in the second half but it wasn't enough to overcome El Camino's 17 point lead at the half.
The Warriors will host Rio Hondo in a SCC crossover game next Wednesday on January 15th. The scheduled start time is 7:00 PM but there is a doubleheader that night with the women's basketball team taking on Mt. Sac at 5:00 PM before the men's game.
