Late Interception Seals Warriors' 31-29 Win over Moorpark

Moorpark, Calif. - Sophomore defensive back Nathaniel Vaughn (Los Angeles, Calif.) picked off Moorpark's Kado Brown in the end zone with 10 seconds remaining to preserve a final 31-29 score in the Warriors' second game of the season on Saturday.

The Warriors (2-0) had held as many as a 25-point lead in the first half at the 28-3 mark behind a strong 14-point first quarter shutout. Sophomore quarterback David Sills (Wilmington, Del.) started things off quickly with a 46-yard run, just over a minute into the game before finding one of his favorite targets in sophomore tight end Erik Henneman (Harvey, La.) for a 13-yard reception.

Moorpark reeled off 20-straight points to end the first half and open the second, but a 37-yard field goal with 11:01 left in the final quarter by freshman Max Kidd (Midland, Mich.) proved to be the go-ahead points, despite Brown scoring a five-yard touchdown rush with 4:22 remaining.

On the day, Sills was 14-for-28 for 167 yards and a touchdown with Henneman counting five receptions for 67 yards to lead the receiving corp. Defensively, freshman defensive lineman Dallas Tufele (Long Beach, Calif.) had six tackles, including two for loss for a total of 11 yards. Freshman linebacker Dodrey Nevens (Los Angeles, Calif.) was right behind him with three of his four tackles being for loss for 12 yards, including a nine-yard sack.

The Warriors stay on the road, traveling to Grossmont College on Saturday, Sept. 17. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. The Griffins are 2-0.
