Warriors Win Wild Game One in Extras

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- No. 10 El Camino College scored a wild 15-14 victory over No. 8 Cuesta in extra innings in game one of the California Community College Baseball Southern California Regionals on Friday afternoon at Cuesta Field.

The Warriors (30-11) and Cougars (25-16) battled for nearly four hours and combined for 29 runs and 34 hits.

Daniel Murillo starred for the Warriors as he went 6-for-6 at the dish with two doubles, a triple, four runs scored and five RBI in the victory. The top seven hitters in the Warriors batting lineup all recorded hits on the day.

For the Cougars, they smacked 16 hits off Warriors pitching including two doubles and a home run from Zach Tallerman.

Pitching was optional at Cuesta Field as all but two pitchers used in the game surrendered at least one run on the day.

Neil Feist was one of those two pitchers as he picked up the win in relief, getting the last six outs and pitching a scoreless ninth and 10th inning despite one hit and three walks during that period.

Woody Brennan took the loss for the Cougars as he allowed the game-winning run in the 10th thanks to a 2-out RBI double from Dylan Knowles that scored Waldie Perez from second base to give ECC the 15-14 advantage.

The Warriors held leads of 3-0, 6-3, and 10-5 but the Cougars found ways to claw back and keep the Warriors close until finally taking a 13-11 lead thanks to a three-run eighth inning. Not to be outdone, the Warriors got those three runs back in the ninth to take a 14-13 lead but the Cougars were able to score the tying run on two singles and a wild pitch in the frame. The Cougars would actually load the bases with two outs but Feist go a popup to end the frame.

Feist took care of business in the 10th, striking out two and allowing just a two-out walk to lock down the win and the series advantage for the Warriors.

The teams will return to action on Saturday for game two at Cuesta Field with first pitch set for 11 a.m. The Warriors will be the designated home team.
