Baseball Seeded No. 10, Heads to Cuesta for CCCAA Regionals

2022 CCCAA Baseball SoCal Regional Bracket

TORRANCE, Calif. --- The El Camino College baseball team will be on the road to begin the 2022 California Community College Baseball Southern California Regional Playoffs on Friday.

The Warriors, who finished third in the South Coast Conference during the regular season, drew the No. 10 seed in the SoCal bracket and will head to San Luis Obispo to take on the Western State, North Division champion and No. 7 seed Cuesta.

The Cougars finished the year with a 25-15 record and 18-6 mark in WSC-North action, finishing two games ahead of Santa Barbara to secure the title.

As for the Warriors, they ended the year with a 29-11 overall record and qualified for the CCCAA postseason for the fifth consecutive season (2016-present; no postseason in 2020 and no season in 2021 due to COVID-19 Pandemic).

This will mark the first meeting, regular season or postseason, between the two teams since 2007. Warriors head coach Nate Fernley was in his first season at the helm and led the team to its first South Coast Conference title in 19 years at the time. The Warriors drew Cuesta in the first round of the playoffs with the Cougars coming out on top in three games.

The two teams were slated to face each other again in 2020 but the season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic one week before their schedule two-game series was set to start on March 20 in San Luis Obispo.

Orange Empire Conference Champion Saddleback drew the No. 1 overall seed in the SoCal regionals with Glendale (No. 2), Riverside (No. 3), Santa Ana (No. 4) rounding out the top-four in the bracket. The second round will be re-seeded if any upsets deem it necessary.
