Warriors Drop First Game of the Series Against the Mounties

TORRANCE, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors baseball team's 12-game conference win streak came to an end as they dropped their first game of the series against SCC leaders Mt. Sac, 6-3.  

The Warriors fall to 28-10 (16-6 BWC) on the season while the Mounties move to 31-7 (18-4 BWC) for the season.

Thomas Bainton suffered his second loss of the season and first since February 22nd against Long Beach City College. Bainton twirled 7 innings allowing 9 hits, 4 runs, 1 walk, and fanned 8 batters.   Michael Flores tossed 8 innings allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 3 for the Mounties.  

The Mounties outhit the Warriors 10-to-6 for the game.  Julio Camerena led the Warriors with a 2-for-4 day.  

The Warriors struck first to take an early lead in the first inning.  Julio Camerena, Dylan Knowles, Ben Griffin led the inning off with singles.  Daniel Murillo grounded into a double play to score one while Dylan Knowles scored on a wild pitch.

The Mounties tied things up in the 4th inning after Blake Borgogno had a 2-run homer over the right field fence.

The Mounties would add a pair of runs in the 5th and 8th inning to take a 6-2 lead.

The Warriors had a strong start to the 9th inning after Daniel Murillo led the inning off with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch.  Ethan Felix doubled him in to cut the Mounties lead to 3 runs.

However, the Mounties would bring in their closer Cristian Enriquez who struck out the side and secured the win for the Mounties.

The series shifts over to Mt San Antonio on Thursday.  If the Mounties win either of the next two games, they will secure the South Coast Conference Championship.
