Camarena’s Perfect Day at the Plate Leads Warriors over Mounties

WALNUT, Calif. - El Camino College opened up South Coast Conference play with a 5-2 win over Mt. Sac on the road at Art Mazmanian Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors (7-5, 1-0) led from the second inning on for the entire game over the Mounties (9-3, 0-1). 

The Warriors outhit the Mounties 9-to-7 for the game.  Juan Carlos Camarena had a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4 with three RBIs and one run. Chris Villavicencio was 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Connor Bartholomew led the Mounties with a 3-for-4 day at the plate.

Jimmy Galicia picked up his third win of the season after going eight innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.  Kyle Hatai picked up the save after tossing a 1-2-3 inning in the 9th. 

Tyler Frazier took the loss for the Mounties after going 4.2 innings and allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks.

The Warriors put up a 3-spot in the second inning to take the first lead of the game.  

Aaron Orozco led the inning off with a single and Chris Villavicencio walked to put two runners on.  Juan Carlos Camarena singled in Orozco for the first run and Chase Cosner singled in Villavicencio for the second run.  Benny Casillas would score Camarena on a sac fly to make it 3-0 before the inning ended.

Mt. Sac got one run back in the fourth inning after a two out RBI single by Bartholomew.

The Warriors got the run right back in the next half inning after Camarena singled in Villavicencio to make it 4-1. 

Mt. Sac got another run in the sixth inning after a lead off error started the inning and Bartholomew again singled in a run with two outs.

The Warriors got their final run in the eighth inning after Chris Villavicencio led the inning off with a triple.   Juan Camarena once again singled him in to give the Warriors a 5-2 lead.  

The series will now shift back to Warrior Field on Thursday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM. The probable starters are Aaron Orozco (0-2) for the Warriors and Michael Ortega (3-0) for the Mounties.
