Warriors Grind Out Win Over Chaffey

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College fell behind early against Chaffey College but they were able to rally back with seven unanswered runs to win 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at Warrior Field.

After being outscored 16-1 in the two games earlier this week, the Warriors (6-5) offense finally showed up for the week's final game.  

The Warriors pounded out ten hits compared to the Panthers (7-4) eight hits.  Nine different Warriors had a base hit for the day with Juan Carlos Camarena registering the only two-hit game. 

The Warriors utilized an all-staff day for pitching.  Neil Feist got the start and tossed four innings, allowing three runs on six hits, one walk, and two strikeouts. Joey Acosta and Julian Diaz each pitched a scoreless inning. Kyle Hatai got the win after throwing a scoreless inning and Julian Aguiar picked up his first career save after throwing the final two innings.

Ryan Buckley got the start for the Panthers and lasted 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits and four walks.  Matthew Flores suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in two innings pitched.

Things got off to a shaky start with the Warriors spotting Chaffey a 3-0 lead to start the game.  The Panthers scored three runs on four hits in the first inning.

El Camino got one run back after Aaron Orozco scored Julian Diaz on a base hit. 

The Warriors scored their second run in the second inning after Benny Casillas scored Matthew Romero a base hit to left field to make it a 3-2 game.

The Warriors tied things up in the fourth inning at 3-3.  Juan Carlos Camarena hit a triple off the wall with one out.  Tyler Wright was hit by a pitch and Benny Casillas drew a walk.  The fourth ball during Casillas's at-bat was a passed ball that scored Camarena from third.

The Warriors added two runs in the seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead. Diego Alarcon had a one out double. Chase Cosner was hit by a pitch and Joey Acosta walked to load the bases.  Tristan Gallegos hit a pinch hit base hit to centerfield that drove in Alarcon and Cosner to give the Warriors the lead. 

The Warriors added two more insurance runs in the eighth inning to make it a 7-3 game. Julian Diaz got on base with one out via a walk.  Jimmy Galicia doubled in Diaz with two outs to make it a 6-3 game. Chase Cosner singled in Galicia to spot the Warriors a 7-3 lead.  

The Warriors will head to Mt. Sac on Tuesday, February 18th to begin South Coast Conference play.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM. Probable starters for Tuesday's match are Tyler Frazier (2-0, 0.61 ERA) squaring off against Jimmy Galicia (2-1, 1.67 ERA).
