Warriors Defeat Olympians at Home

TORRANCE, Calif. - El Camino College scored first and led for the rest of the way as they defeated San Diego Mesa 11-9 at home on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors (3-2) used two big innings to score 6 runs and 3 runs apiece to jump to a commanding lead over the Olympians (2-3) in Saturday's win.  

Julian Aguiar picked up his first win after throwing six innings.  Aguiar allowed four runs on eight hits, one walk, and fanned seven batters.  Joey Acosta picked up the save after throwing three innings of relief and allowed five runs (two earned) on five hits, zero walks, and one strike out.  Adrian Sanchez picked up the loss for the Olympians after allowing six runs in two innings of work. 

The Warriors were outhit 13-to-10 for the day but they were able to capitalize on seven walks and three Olympian errors.  Four Warriors had multi-hit days for the game. Diego Alarcon was 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Aaron Orozco was 2-for-4 with one run and four RBIs.  Juan Carlos Camarena was 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Julian Diaz was 2-for-4 with one run and two RBIs.  

The Olympians pounded out thirteen hits for the day with Kevin Van Linge (3-for-5), Jorge Martinez (2-for-4) and Rumble Reyes (2-for-5) leading the way.

The Warriors opened the scoring on a big six run second inning.  Crixtian Taveras and Tyler Wright started the inning off with back-to-back hits.  Camarena doubled in one run and Julian scored two more runs off a base hit to give the Warriors a 3-0 lead.  The Warriors loaded the bases after Benny Casillas and Chris Villavicencio walked. Diego Alarcon brought in one run on a sac fly to make it 4-0.  Aaron Orozco brought in two more runs on an infield single to give the Warriors a 6-0 lead.

SD Mesa responded with four runs in the top of the third inning to make it a 6-4 game. The Warriors got three runs back in the fourth inning.  Villavicencio, Alarcon, and Neil Feist got on base to load the bases to start the inning. Aaron Orozco brought in one run on a walk and the Warriors scored two more times on two wild pitches to make it a 9-4 game.

Aaron Orozco hit his second home run of the year on an opposite field solo blast in the sixth inning to make it 10-4. 

The Olympians got three runs in the seventh inning.  Joey Acosta got the first two batters of the inning out and should've got out of the inning earlier but a fielding error extended the inning.  The Olympians were able to capitalize with three unearned runs with two outs to make it a 10-7 game.

The Warriors added one more run in the seventh inning to make it an 11-7 game.

SD Mesa got two more runs in the Top of the 9th via a two-run home run but Acosta was able to battle back and finish out the game to pick up the save.

The Warriors will head to Bakersfield next week for a three-game series.  The first game is on Thursday, February 6th with the first pitch scheduled for 6:00 PM.
