Former Warriors Pitcher Rashi Selected in MLB Draft

Former El Camino College baseball pitcher Taylor Rashi was selected Wednesday by the San Francisco Giants on day three for the 2019 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Rashi was taken in the 23rd Round with the 686th overall pick after completing his senior season at UC Irvine.

The Torrance, Calif. native pitched for the Warriors in 2017, helping lead the team to a historic season and a trip to the CCCAA State Championship Final Four.

Rashi struck out 144 batters in 118.2 innings pitched as a sophomore with the Warriors, setting a new single-season record for the program. He earned numerous postseason accolades including All-American selections from the American Baseball Coaches' Association and was the 2017 South Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year.

Rashi would go on to transfer to UC Irvine where he appeared in 45 games for the Anteaters. He posted an 8-5 overall record, making 14 starts. He posted 13 career saves, 12 of them coming in his senior season to rank 20th in the nation. He struck out 103 batters in 109.1 innings pitched and posted a 2.72 ERA in two seasons at Irvine. Rashi was named to the All-Big West First Team in 2019.
