Hazell also serves as head coach of the indoor women's volleyball program, a position she's held for four season. She succeeded legendary head coach LeValley Pattison after Pattison retired from coaching indoor volleyball following the 2016 season. Hazell served on Pattison's coaching staff as an assistant for 12 seasons, joining the staff in 2005 after graduating from Cal State Hayward (now Cal State East Bay) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history.

She completed her third season at the helm of the Warriors in 2019.

Prior to coaching, Hazell was a three-sport star at West High School in Torrance, Calif., playing softball, soccer and volleyball. She attended El Camino College in 2000-2001, where she was a co-captain of a volleyball team that was undefeated in conference and placed fourth in the state in 2001. She also garnered the conference MVP as well as Athlete of the Year honors at El Camino College. She was one of six players on the All-State team as an opposite hitter.

From El Camino College, she transferred to California State University, Hayward. She earned All-Western Region honors for the two years she played. She was a history major and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2004. She completed a master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University in 2009.
