Warriors Qualify for State Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The El Camino College men's and women's cross country teams each qualified for the 2023 3C2A State Championships after performing well at last week's 3C2A Southern California Regionals at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, Calif.

The men's team finished in 12th place with Aaron Cohen leading the charge, placing 29th overall with a personal-best time of 20:40. Alan Canales also posted a personal best by finishing in 20:47, good for 34th place.

Defending state champions Mount San Antonio won the race with San Diego Mesa finishing in second place and Bakersfield placing third. The top 16 teams advanced to the state championships.

On the women's side, the Warriors finished 10th overall to also qualify for the state championships with Sequoia Gonzales leading the way in fourth place with a time of 17:49.6. Ami Jacobson also scored a top-10 finish, placing in 10th with a time of 18:43.6.

The teams will now head to the 3C2A State Championships held at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. on Nov. 18. The women's race will be a 3.1 mile course with the start time set for 10 a.m. while the men will tackle the four-mile course at 11 a.m.
