Cross Country Nets Top-10 Finishes at SoCal Preview

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- The El Camino College cross country team had a solid showing on both the men's and women's side as the team competed at the Southern California Regional Preview held at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, Calif.

On the women's side, the Warriors placed sixth overall in a field of 21 full teams. The finish was highlighted once again by sophomore Sequoia Gonzales and her second-place finish in a field of 164 runners. She finished the 5,000m course with a time of 18:26.4. Sophia Godina of Ventura finished first overall with a time of 18:03.8.

Ami Jacobson placed 19th overall with a time of 19:37.6 with Arianna Hurtado (46th, 21:27.1), Torah Noah (66th, 22:13.3) and Elaine Dugmore (80th, 22:54.0) rounding out the scoring for the Warriors.

On the men's side, the team placed ninth overall with a score of 241 in the 27-team field with six other teams not meeting the full-team requirement for a score. Aaron Cohen led the way for the Warriors with a 21st place finish, navigating the five-mile course in 20:44.7.

He was one of four Warriors freshmen that accounted for the team score with Alan Canales (53rd, 21:39.2), Navier Quezada (58th, 21:49.2) and Tyler Bradford (63rd, 21:56.9) rounding out the newcomers. Sophomore Dom Marino placed 60th with a time of 21:52.7) to wrap up the team score for the Warriors.

The team will return to action on Saturday, October 7 when they compete at the Chaffey Invitational hosted on the Chaffey College campus.
