Warriors Women’s Cross Country Places 5th at Southern California Regionals

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The El Camino College Warriors Cross-Country team competed at the CCCAA Southern California Regional Championships on Friday at the Kern County Soccer Park.  The Warriors women's team came in fifth place and qualified for the State Championships while the men came in 22nd place.

Sequoia Gonzalez led the Warriors with an 11th place finish and a time of 18:47.  She earned All-Southern California honors.  Marikay Schwab of Golden West won the women's 5K race with a time of 17:35. Ami Jacobson came in 17th place with a time of 19:04.  Rania Gomaa came in 24th place with a time of 19:28.  Brianna Johnson came in 63rd place with a time of 21:03 and Haidee Lopez was the fifth Warrior finisher and came in 76th place with a time of 21:31.The Warriors came in fifth place with 158 points.  Mt. Sac won the team race with 56 points.  San Diego Mesa was second (82 points), Bakersfield third (145 points), and Glendale fourth (147 points). 

In the men's race, the Warriors came in 22nd place and ended a 32-year consecutive streak of qualifying to the state tournament.  Dominic Marino led the Warriors and came in 79th place with a time of 21:56 and individually qualified to the state championship.  Normal top finisher for the men's team, Stephen Hansen came in 109th place with a time of 22:49 after a tough week of battling sickness.  Josh Carillo was the third finisher for the Warriors in 150th place with a time of 24:19. James Neely came in 154th place with a time of 24:33.  Kai Hajir came in 167th place and was the fifth finisher with a time of 25:55. 

The Warriors women's team and Dominic Marino of the men's team will compete at the CCCAA State Championships on November 19th at Woodward Park in Fresno.
