Warriors Cross Country Races at Southern California Regional Championships

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. - The El Camino College cross country teams competed at the 2021 Southern California Regional Championships at Mile Square Park over the weekend and the men's team qualified for the State Championships.  With the Top-14 teams advancing to the State Championships, the men's team secured their spot with their 14th place finish while the women's team narrowly missed out by coming in 17th place.

For the thirty second time in a row, the men's team have qualified for the state championships.  San Diego Mesa College came in first place with 44 points while Daniel Abdala of Mt. Sac came in first place individually with a time of 19:12 in the 4-mile race. Anthony Gil was the top finisher for the Warriors and came in 39th place with a time of 21:05. Arend Verfaillie came in not far behind him in 44th place with a time of 21:14. Stephen Hansen was the third finisher for the Warriors and came in 90th place with a time of 22:21. Adrian Sixtos (129th/23:56) and Shota Shimuzu (131st/24:01) rounded out the top-5 finishers for the Warriors.

In the women's race, Mt. Sac won the team race with a score of 83 and Danielle Salcedo came in first place individually with a time of 17:55 in the 5K race. Rania Gaama led the Warriors and came in 64th place with a time of 21:21. Meghan Wright came in 83rd place with a time of 22:24 and Haidee Lopez came in 86th place with a time of 22:37. Cora Hesson came in 92nd place with a time of 23:09 and Mia Hasenmayer rounded out the top-5 finishers by coming in 105th place with a time of 24:17.

The Warriors will have the weekend off before heading to Woodward Park in Fresno for the CCCAA State Championships on Saturday, November 20th.
